What Is Frame Straightening?

Frame straightening is pulling a bent frame or unibody back to factory dimensions. Most cars today are unibody, meaning the body shell itself is the structure, so a hard hit can shift the strut towers, rails, or core support even when the outer damage looks limited. We anchor the vehicle, measure key points against manufacturer specs, and use controlled pulls to bring the structure back within tolerance. Trucks with separate frames get the same treatment on the frame rails.

Why Is Frame Straightening Important?

Everything else on the car depends on a straight structure. If the unibody is off, the suspension can't be aligned properly, tires wear unevenly, panels won't fit, and the car may not protect you the same way in another collision. Straightening has to happen before panel and paint work, because bolting new parts to a bent structure just hides the problem.

When Should You Consider Frame Straightening?

Suspect structural damage after any hit hard enough to deploy airbags, push a wheel back, or buckle the hood or rails. Other signs: the car pulls to one side after an accident, new tires wear fast on one edge, doors that used to close fine now catch, or panel gaps changed after the hit. An insurance adjuster's visual estimate won't catch this; measuring will.
