What Is Fender Repair?

Fender repair is straightening or replacing the panel over the front wheels. Light damage gets metalworked back to shape and skim-filled. Heavy creases, tears, or rust-through mean swapping the fender for a new panel. Either way the fender comes off or gets prepped in place, gets primed and painted with base coat and clear coat, and gets aligned so the gaps to the hood, door, and bumper are even. Fender hits often bend the inner apron or push the fender liner into the tire, so we check behind the panel too.

Why Is Fender Repair Important?

Fender gaps are one of the first places a trained eye, or a used-car appraiser, looks for evidence of a bad repair. Uneven gaps and wavy panel surfaces mark the car as poorly fixed. There's also a practical side: a bent fender can rub the tire, and exposed metal along a crease will rust in Florida weather.

When Should You Consider Fender Repair?

Bring it in when a fender is creased or pushed in, when the gap to the hood or door looks uneven, when you hear tire rub on turns after an impact, or when rust bubbles are forming along the wheel arch. Fender damage rarely improves by waiting.
