What Is Collision Repair?

Collision repair is the full process of putting a wrecked vehicle back to pre-accident condition. That starts with a teardown to find hidden damage behind the bumper covers and panels, then structural checks on the unibody, replacement or repair of damaged panels, and refinishing in the paint booth. On a modern car most of the strength is in the unibody itself, so the work goes beyond what you can see from the outside. Why Is Collision Repair Important?

When Should You Consider Collision Repair?

Any time the car has been hit hard enough to crease metal, crack a bumper, or push a panel out of line, have a body shop look at it. Even a low-speed parking lot hit can bend the reinforcement bar behind a bumper cover that looks fine. If you're filing an insurance claim, get an estimate before you accept the adjuster's first number so nothing gets missed.
